Fett-butt doesn't like them, but games where one of the main objectives is the collection of various objects are always one of my favorite kinds to play. Probably in part because I'm good at it.
I'm a greedy bitch. I like money and I like stuff, and I like games about getting more and more of said stuff. I'm also a part of the 'Gotta Catch 'Em All' generation, so getting one of everything is always a goal for me. Even less obvious collection themes, like Katamari Damacy, which EVERYBODY LOVES, by the way, catch my interest.
What we need is a game that makes collection a main goal, but gives it depth. Introducing game idea #X, 'Merchant's Quest.' You play the adolescent son of a poor merchant as he sets out to turn a profit and bring his family vast riches. You start out slaying random encounters then selling various parts of of their corpses for petty cash, and work your way up to finding treasures in dungeons and auctioning them off as rare archaeological finds, and when you save up enough you can buy tools to create products from the raw materials you find and hire workers to slave away in sweatshops for you. You can choose to become a thief or you can run an honest business, and certain objects will become more difficult to obtain depending on the path you take. There's no linear plot to follow. Essentially, you cross Harvest Moon, Dragon Warrior, and uncontrollable greed into one RPG. That'd be awesome, right?
